Halos lahat ng cults of Christianity ay against sa Trinity. Ang mga taga Iglesia Ni Cristo, ang mga taga Ang Dating Daan ni Eliseo Soriano, ang mga Jehovah’s Witnesses, ang mga taga-PMCC 4th Watch ni Arsenio Ferriol, ang mga Oneness cult na tulad nina Wilde Estrada Almeda, Apollo C. Quiboloy, Luis Ruiz Santos (“Friends Again”), at ang mga taga United Pentecostal Church International na pumasok sa ating bansa noong mga 1960s. Ang mga Unitarian religious groups ay hindi din naniniwala sa Trinity dahil para sa kanila si Jesus daw ay isang creature, at marami pang iba. I remember a number of years ago noong may natanggap ako na magazine printed and published by the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society founded by Charles Taze Russell the first president of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. The title of their magazine is Should You Believe in the Trinity? or sa Tagalog Dapat Ba Kayong Maniwala sa Trinidad? Nakakagulat kasi ang dami ng kanilang pinablish sa English language. There are around 5 million English magazines at hindi pa kasama diyan ang mga Tagalog materials. Seryoso talaga sila na i-deceive at iligaw ang mga tao sa buong mundo. Maraming pictiures ang magazine na ito kasama na ang mga pagan triads na ang gusto nilang iparating sa mga readers nila ay kinopya lang daw ang Trinity teaching na ito sa mga pagano. This is not true! Actually, walang peke kung walang original. Sa tingin ninyo may lalabas ba na pekeng Levi’s jeans kung walang original? May mga pekeng Rolex or Seiko ba na lalabas kung walang original? Paano kaya nagka-idea si Satanas tungkol sa mga triads na ito? So dito pa lang makikita ninyo na we are being feed by the cults of wrong information. O sige, tanggapin natin for a moment without conceding yung mga arguments nila na kinopya daw itong Trinity sa mga Babylonian at Egyptian triads. Eh, papaano yung resurrection ni Jesus? May ganitong concept din ng resurrection sa Egyptian history na si Tammuz daw ay nag-“resurrect” sa mga patay. So ibig bang sabihin niyan ay hindi na tayo maniniwala sa resurrection ni Jesus dahil sa may counterpart lang ito sa mga pagans? Kahit nga yung story of the global flood ni Noah ay may counteraprt story din sa Epic of Gilgamesh pero hindi ibig sabihin nito ay nangopya lang ang Old Testament writer na si Moses sa mga pagans. Dito pa lang ay sasabit na sila. Huwag po tayong magpapadaya at magpapaloko sa kanila.

Since the magazine is filled with a lot of references coming from different books like Encyclopedia Americana, Dictionary of Religious Knowledge, New Catholic Encyclopedia, Theological Dictionary, and many others, siyempre yung pobreng magbabasa na walang access sa mga materials na ito ay tatanggapin na lang kung ano ang inapprove ng Governing Body ng Mga Saksi ni Jehovah. So what I did was to do my homework by going back to the primary source. Ganiyan naman talaga ang dapat nating gawin. Hindi yung tanggap ng tanggap sa lahat ng sinusulat ng mga kulto katulad ng mga Oneness Groups, Ang Dating Daan, at Iglesia ni Cristo religious groups. 

One time as I was talking to a Jehovah’s Witness in Makati. I treated him to snacks so I can engage in a good conversation with him. I asked him if he is familiar with the Should You Believe in the Trinity? magazine. And ang sabi niya Oo. According to him, very accurate daw ang mga nakasulat doon at magandang mabasa ng lahat. Ang tanong ko sa kaniya ay “Nasubukan mo na bang i-research yung mga ginamit nilang references doon sa magazines?” Sabi niya ay “Oo, naman.” Ang sagot ko ay “Alam mo, may dala akong mga photocopies ng mga references nila na nasa akin ngayon. Puwede mo bang i-check then sabihin mo sa akin kung yung mga nagsulat ng magazine ay minisre-present nila ang mga scholars and historians ng librong mga kinowt nila?” Nagulat ako sa sagot niya dahil ang sabi niya ay, “Ayokong basahin iyang mga iyan kasi kuntento na ako sa paniniwala ko.” Nakakagulat lang kasi ang mga taong katulad ng mga Jehovah’s Witnesses would not want anymore to rock their belief. They want to criticize the belief system of others but if Christians will correct their misrepresentations and misquotations ay ayaw nilang magpa-korek. 

I remember, marami ding mga cult groups tulad ng Iglesia Ni Cristo ang nagsasabing inimbento daw ng Roman Catholic Church sa Council of Nicea noong AD 325 ang doktrina ng Trinity. This is not accurate and faithful to church history. No legitimate church historian will agree with their assumption. The cults are twisting the story to make it look like as if the Trinity doctrine was made up in that council meeting. Ang totoo, hindi pinag-usapan sa Council of Nicea ang Trinity kundi during that time ang pinag-debatehan diyan ay ang kalikasan ni Jesus kung mababang-uri ng Diyos ba talaga Siya according sa argument ng isang heretic bishop na si Arius. Si Jesus ba ay Diyos na kapantay sa kalikasan ng Kaniyang Ama? After much discussion among the three hundred plus bishops from the west and east ay napatunayan ng halos lahat na si Jesus ay totoong Diyos na kapantay sa kalikasan ng Kaniyang Ama. Kaya nag-agree silang lahat except si Arius at ang kaniyang dalawang tagasunod. Kaya huwag kang agree ng agree as kanilang mga kuwento o turo. Pumunta ka sa primary source na kanilang pinagkukunan. Marami tuloy na mga tao ang nadadaya dahil sa katamaran na magbasa ng mga libro na references. Hindi tayo madadaya ng mga taong ito kung aalamin natin talaga kung saan nila kinukuha ang mga pinagsasasabi nila sa kanilang mga turo at magazines.

Actually, ganiyan din ang ginagawa ng mga Oneness teachers sa kanilang mga YouTube videos and Iglesia Ni Cristo sa kanilang Pasugo magazines kaya’t mag-ingat ka. Ang mga Oneness ay mga kultong grupo na naniniwala na si Jesus daw ay ang Ama at Banal na Espiritu sa Kaniyang pagka-Diyos at ang Anak naman sa Kaniyang pagka-tao, Para sa kanila ang title ni Jesus na “Son of God” ay hindi nangangahulugan na Siya ay Diyos. Naku, mali na naman ito. Dahil kapag pinag-aralan ninyo ang talagang ibig sabihin ng “Son of God” ay malalaman ninyo na ang ibig sabihin niyan talaga ay may kalikasan si Jesus na tulad ng Kaniyang Ama kasi unique or bukod tangi Siyang Anak ng Diyos. Ang salitang “begotten” or “one and only” sa John 3:16 ay nanggaling sa Greek word na “monogenes” na according sa isang Greek scholar na si Dr. Spiros Zhodiates ay “The word ‘monogones’ actually is a compound of the word, ‘alone,’ and the word ‘genos,’ ‘race, stock, family.’ Here we are told that He who came to reveal God—Jesus Christ—is of the same family, of the same stock, of the same race as God. He is in no way less God than His Father” (Spiros Zhodiates, Was Christ God? p. 21). So basa-basa lang pag may time. They will try to connect Matthew 28:19 with Acts 2:38 as if pareho ang context ng dalawang passage na ito.

Huwag kang tango-ng-tango sa kanilang mga sinusulat. Matuto kang i-counter check ang lahat ng kanilang mga tinuturo at sinusulat. Lalong-lalo na kung mahilig ka lang manood ng YouTube videos. Fortunately, for me, I have an access to a number of literatures and books kaya hindi nila ako mabobola sa kanilang mga sinisipi na references. Mapapaikot ka talaga nila sa mga sinusulat at rtinuturo nila. Ganiyan din ang ginagawa ni Mr. Eliseo Soriano. I don’t think he knows how to biblically exegete na Scripture. Yes, he may be good only in memorizing verses and connecting them from each other not knowing na ang Greek word sa New Testament ay maraming kahulugan. Actually, ang salitang “love” sa Greek ay may apat na words: agape, phileo, eros, and storge. Ang salitang “one” sa Greek ay dalawa din ang available word: heis and hen. Kaya hindi lahat ng mababasa mo na “pagmamahal” or “isa” ay pare-pareho ang kahulugan. Kahit nga yung salitang “another” ay may dalawang words sa Greek: allos at heteros. Kaya pag nakinig ang isang tao kay Mr. Soriano, do not just believed everything he explains. I’m sure he will lead you astray as he quotes the verses. Hindi mag-a-agree ang mga scholars sa manner ng interpretation. ni Mr. Soriano especially on the essential doctrines about God. Ganiyan ang mga founder ng mga kulto. They will not adhere to the proper grammatico-historical setting of the Scripture. Wala silang pakialam sa biblical languages at figure of speech sa kanilang pagpapaliwanag. They will just pick and choose whatever they like. Bibili sila ng libro or academic references ng mga evangelical scholars at gagamit pa ng mga e-Sword or Bible apps pero they will be so proud to insist on their own subjective interpretation. Basta arya lang sila ng arya. Ingat ka kaibigan kasi ililigaw ka talaga ng mga taong ito.

Now, bigyan kita ng sample quote sa Should You Believe in the Trinity magazines ng Mga Saksi ni Jehovah then tell me kung misquotation or misrepresentation ba ang ginawa nila dito. Ito ang nakasulat na quote sa Should You Believe in the Trinity. Basahin ninyo,

Catholic scholars Karl Rhaner and Herbert Vorgrimler state in their Theological Dictionary: “The Trinity is a mystery… in the strict sense…, which could not be known without revelation, and even after revelation cannot become wholly intelligible.”

Kung babasahin mo ng ganiyan lang without knowing the full context ay iisipin mo na para bang ang sinasabi ng mga Catholic writers ay hindi mo talaga maiiintindihan ang Trinity. Now, kung mapapansin ninyo ay may mga pinutol sila dito sa quote na ito. Mabuti na lang at nakakuha ako ng photocopy ng kanilang pinagkunan na libro para malaman ko yung full context na sinulat ng mga authors. Ito ang full-context at kayo na ang magdesisyon kung talagang na represent nila ng tama ang mga authors ng libro na ito. 

The Trinity is a mystery (mysterium absulutum) in the strict sense (D 1795), which could not be known without revelation, and even after revelation cannot become wholly intelligible. It’s import is as follows: (1) The one God exists in three “Persons” (Subsistences) which are the one divine Nature (the one divine essence, the divine substance) see D 17, 48, 428 and passim) and therefore are equally eternal and almighty (D 13, 19, 703f, 776ff, and passim). (2) These three Persons are (really) distinct from one another (D39, 281, 703ff, 1655)…

So if you notice, naipaliwanag naman ng mga authors ang Trinity dito. Actually, ang sinasabi lang talaga nila na ang Trinity daw ay talagang misteryoso na hindi talaga natin malalaman kung walang revelation. At saan naman mangggagaling ang revelation? Saan pa kundi sa Old and New Testament. At kahit na ito ay ni-reveal na ni God sa atin ay hindi pa rin natin ito talagang mauunawaan or mako-comprehend dahil sa it defies our intelligence. May nakapagsabi nga na ang Trinity ay maiintidihan mo pero hindi mo lubos na mauunawaan or you can only understand the Trinity but never comprehend it. So dishonest pa rin ang Mga Saksi ni Jehovah sa kanilang pag-quote ng references. Ang aim nila ay to mislead the readers para maipakita na hindi talaga kayang ipaliwanag ang Trinity. Isa lang ito sa maraming mga references na kanilang binaluktot.    

So ano ba itong Trinity? Ang Trinity ay isang compound word. May dalawang words na napapaloob dito sa salitang ito. Yung una ay “Tri” na kinuha sa salitang “three.” At yung pangalawa naman ay “nity” na galing sa salitang “unity.” So, saan sila tatlo at saan sila nagkakaisa? Kumbaga three Who’s and one what? Yung “three” ay nagri-refer sa three distinct Persons (the Father, the Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit) na mababasa natin sa Bible. Hindi sila “three individual Gods” or “three separate Gods” but “three distinct Persons in the one God. Puwede bang mangyari na ang tatlong Persona na ito ay mag-share sa isang divine Name at isang kalikasan or nature ng pagiging Diyos ni Yahweh? Yes. Kasi sa Old Testament may malimit na binabanggit na Father who is Yahweh, Angel of the LORD who is Yahweh, at Spirit of God who is also Yahweh. Basahin natin ang ilang mga verses sa Bible.

1. The Father is Yahweh. Walang magko-contest dito na kulto.

He shall cry to me, ‘You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation.’ – Psalm 89:26

2. The Angel of the Yahweh is Yahweh also. Actually, ang ibig sabihin talaga ng “angel” (Hebrew “malak”) dito ay “messenger” at hindi isang ordinaryong anghel lamang. Siya ang tinatawag na theophany of Yahweh. Yung second Person na bumababa at nakikipag-usap sa mga Old Testmement patriarchs. Sa New Testament kasi nag-incarnate na talaga ang second Person ng Godhead at iyon ay walang iba kundi si Jesus. By the way, ang human name ni Yahweh ay Jesus (see Matt. 1:21).

And the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed. – Exodus 3:2

When the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” Exodus 3:4

Napansin mo ba na yung angel of the Lord who spoke out of the midst of the bush is mismong si God or si Yahweh who appeared to Moses out of the midst of a bush? Kaya nga ang tawag sa Kaniya ay angel of Yahweh kasi magkaibang person yung angel (or messenger) kay Yahweh na person. Hindi na naiba iyan sa Son of God. Yung Son as a person ay iba kay God na isa ding person pero it doesn’t mean yung Son ay hindi na God kasi the mere fact na Siya ay Son ay pareho sila ng “nature” or “kalikasan” ng Ama niya na Diyos. Ang kuting, na anak ng pusa, hindi ba ito pusa din? Ang tuta, na anak ng aso, hindi ba ito ay aso din sa kalikasan? So, yung Son of God, na anak ni God ay may kalikasan din ng pagiging Diyos.    

3. And the Holy Spirit is also called Yahweh. 

Psa 95:7 For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. Today, if you hear his voice, Psa 95:8 do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah, as on the day at Massah in the wilderness, Psa 95:9 when your fathers put me to the test and put me to the proof, though they had seen my work. – Psalm 95:7-9

Ngayon, basahin mo dito sa Hebrews 3:7-9 kung sino ang nagsalita ng “Today, if you hear his voice” claiming that “he was tested, put to the proof,” at sinabi pa niya his work was seen. Basahin mo ngayon dito at buksan mo ang mga mata mo.  

Heb 3:7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, “Today, if you hear his voice, Heb 3:8  do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness, Heb 3:9 where your fathers put me to the test and saw my works for forty years. – Heb. 3:7-9

Now, tell me honestly. Does the Holy Spirit claim to be Yahweh God? How about sa New Testament? May mababasa ka din dito na ang Father, ang Son, and at ang Holy Spirit ay titawag din g God. Napakarami pero magbabanggit lang ako ng ilan. 

1. The Father is called God.  

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! – 1 Peter 1:3

Napansin mo ba na ang sinabi ni Peter na yung God and Father ay nagri-refer sa isang person na iba kay Jesus? Kaya nga “God and Father of…” How about si Jesus? Is he also God na katulad ng nature ng Kaniyang Father? You check this next passage.

2. Jesus is also called God like His Father.

This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God. – John 5:18 

Nabasa mo ba diyan na kapag tinawag mo si God during their time na sarili mong Father, you are making yourself equal (Greek “isos”) with God Himself. Kaya nga galit na galit kay Jesus ang mga religious authorities dahil He claims to be the “Son of God” at tinatawag pa Niyang “My Father” si God. Alam ni Jesus ang ibig sabihin nito at ito ang gusto Niyang ipaalam sa lahat kasama na tayo na nagbabasa ng gospel account ni John. Sa panahin natin, walang dating ang tumawag kay God ng “My Father” kasi nga wala naman tayo sa Israel. Pero sa context ni Jesus, ng mga apostles, at ng mga Jewsh authorities they know this. Actually, ang nagsasabi talaga sa passage na iyan na si Jesus daw ahy “making himself equal with God” ay si John not the Pharisees, nor the religious authorities, not even the people. How about the Holy Spirit? Tinawag din ba Siyang God at ni-refer ba Siya as a person? Basahin natin itong mga susunod na passages. 

Kahit na obvious na itong passage na ito, ang mga ministro ng Iglesia Ni Cristo, Mga Saksi ni Jehovah, at si Mr. Eliseo Soriano ng Ang Dating Daan ay tuloy-tuloy pa rin sa kanilang paniniwala na hindi daw Diyos si Jesus na kapantay ng Kaniyang Ama. Isang passage na palagi nilang binabasa ay makikita sa John 14:28 na ang sabi, “the Father is greater than I.” Usually, they will argue na mas mataas ang Ama kaysa Anak because of this passage. However, a careful study of the word “greater” will reveal that this came from the Greek word meizon na nagre-refer sa “position” ng Anak bilang isang tao at hindi bilang Diyos. Iba ito sa salitang “better” that refers to the “nature” of a person (see Heb. 1:4). Kaya nga pag sinabi ng president sa kaniyang nasasakupan na “I’m greater than all of you” that is correct because of his position as president. Pero never niyang sasabihin na “I’m better than everyone” because “better” pertains to nature or kalikasan.  

3. The Holy Spirit is also called God like the Father and the Son Jesus Christ.

Ac 5:3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? Ac 5:4 While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to man but to God.” – Acts 5:3-4

Napansin mo ba na ang sabi ni Peter kay Ananias ay kung bakit daw siya nagsinungaling sa Banal na Espiritu? Sabi ng Mga Saksi ni Jehovah at Iglesia Ni Cristo na ang Banal na Espiritu ay isang impersonal force. Pero paaano kang makakapagsinungaling sa isang hindi persona? Sige nga, subukan mong magsinungaling sa isang electric current o lamesa? And then, Peter eventually concluded na ang pagsisinungaling ni Ananias sa Holy Spirit ay pagsisinungaling mismo sa Diyos. Therefore, the Holy Spirit is called God in this passage. At ang isa pa ay kaya natin nasasabi na person ang Holy Spirit kasi nangungusap din Siya sa mga believers. An example can be read sa Acts 13:2. Sabi dito,

While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” – Acts 13:2

Nabasa mo ba diyan yung sinabing “the Holy Spirit said…?” So, totoo  ngang nangungusap ang Banal na Espiritu sa mga believers. At hindi lang iyan but He is also worship as you can see in that passage. Habang nagwo-worship sila kay Lord ay biglang kinausap sila ng Holy Spirit. So sino yung Lord dito na tinutukoy? Siyempre, yung kumausap sa kanila at nagdesisyon by saying “Set apart for me…” Imagine, a personal pronoun being used by the Holy Spirit at Siya pa mismo ang tumawag. Ewan ko na lang kung hindi pa ito clear sa iyo na the Holy Spirit is truly God and a person at the same time.

So, let me summarize:

There is a Person of the Father who is called God.

There is a Person of the Son (Jesus) who is called God.

There is a Person of the Holy Spirit who is called God. 

Yet kahit na tatlong Persons sila ay they unite in the one nature of Yahweh or God. Sabi nga sa Deuteronomy 6:4, “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.” They are one and they share the name Yahweh. Meron nga akong kilala na tatlong persons pero they share the name Leoncio Santos. If this is possible for us humans then how is it not possible for the Lord? Is it possible for male and female persons like you to believe that they can share the same name that represents unity? Of course. My father and mother have the same human nature and they are one flesh but not one person. So possible ba na ang dalawang person can be called one flesh? Of course! At possible din ba na ang three persons can share one name? Definitely yes! The same goes for God who is Yahweh. The Father, the Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit share the one ad the same divine nature and they also share in the one name Yahweh na ang ibig sabihin ay “self-existent one.” Kung ang tawag kay Father ay Yahweh, kay Son na si Jesus ay Yahweh, at kay Holy Spirit ay Yahweh din, then ibig sabihin nito sila ang nag-iisang Creator. If you want to read a brief understanding of the Trinity doctrine, you may want to read the Athanasian Creed. Ito ang pinaka-summary ng doktrina ng Trinidad na sinulat probably ng mga students ni Athanasius.   May nakapagsabi nga na if you deny the Trinity then you will lose your soul and if you try to comprehend the Trinity then you will lose your mind. Yes, we can understand the Trinity but never can we comprehend it. This is because it is a revelation from the Scripture that people need to believe and accept. It is possible to be saved even without fully understanding the Trinity as long as we don’t fight against this revelation. This is why the Trinity is not a violation of the Scripture but a revelation that was developed (not invented) so many people would understand and be easy for them to easily detect the counterfeit teachings. As one old hymn goes,
