Maraming mga taong nagba-bahay-bahay. May mga naniningil ng pautang, electric bill, at tubig na hindi natin dapat iwasan. Pero may mga taong nagba-bahay-bahay na malimit iniiwasan ng mga tao at lalo na ng mga maraming Kristiyano. At isa sa kanila ay ang mga representative ng Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society.

Are you aware that the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society group are slowly and steadily growing? Sino ba itong grupong ito? Marami sa inyo ay hindi siguro familiar sa grupong ito. Sila ang tinawag eventually na mga Jehovah’s Witnesses. Probably marami sa Inyo ang hindi aware na sila ay pumasok sa Philippines noong 1912 kung saan si Charles Taze Russell ay nag-conduct ng isang lecture sa dating Manila Grand Opera House na dating sikat ng mga panahong iyon. Siya ay naging primary speaker noong January 14 on the same year at maraming mga literatures nila ang pinamigay sa mga umattend sa araw na iyon. 

And pagpasok ng 1920, si William Tinney ng Canada na isang Bible Student din nila ang pumunta din ng Pilipinas para magkalat ng kanilang mga teaching sa ating bansa. Nag-conduct din siya ng isang Bible Study class. Pero sandali lang siyang nag-stay sa ating bansa kasi kailangan niyang bumalik sa Canada because of his health condition. ⁽¹⁾ Pero nagtuloy-tuloy pa rin ang teaching ni Mr. Russell kasi may mga Pilipino na-convince na rin ng kaniyang mga teaching through Mr. Tinney. ⁽²⁾ 

Nagsimula lang sila ng iilan nung mga early 1900s, pero ngayon they are already more than 221,000 active Jehovah’s Witness in the Philippines. Akala mo lang kaunti pero they are already huge as a local independent religious group in our country. Para malaman mo kung gaano sila Talaga karami ay i-compare mo na lang sila sa number ng members ninyo sa local church ninyo. The fact of the matter is sobrang convince sila sa kanilang teaching na   ayaw nilang magsalita ng laban sa teaching ng kanilang religious organization. Kailangan natin itong maintindihan kasi kapag sila ay naging Christian ay posibleng hindi sila kausapin ng kanilang family members and friends na mga taga-Watchtower kasi nga tiwalag sila. Parang ganito din ang nangyayari sa ibang mga cult groups. Hindi ito madali para sa kanila. I hope we will be gracious with them whenever we engage the gospel with these people group. So how do you dialogue with these people group? Paano kang makakapag-plant ng seed sa kanilang mga puso? 

My first advice is do not engage with them if you are not founded in the doctrines of the Christian faith. Kapag hindi mo alam ipaliwanag ang Trinity, yung pagiging God-man ni Jesus, yung divinity and personality of the Holy Spirit, or yung salvation by grace through faith, then I suggest huwag mong ia-attempt na mag-explain kasi handa ang mga taong ito para sagutin ka. They are fully prepared to give you many false informations and misrepresentations about the Trinity doctrine na kesyo nanggaling daw ito sa pagan concept or ininvent daw ito ng Roman Catholics sa time ni Emperor Constantine noong AD 325. These are all misconceptions of church history. The fact of the matter is hindi pinag-usapan ang Trinity sa Council of Nicea noong time na iyon kung saan nag-meet ang more than 300 bishops coming from the east and west. Ang pinag-debatehan talaga nila ay yung tungkol sa divinity ni Jesus na kinu-question ni Arius, isang bishop sa Alexandria. Sabi kasi niya si Jesus daw ay nilalang ng Kaniyang Ama at mababang uri ng Diyos kesa sa Kaniyang Ama. Namana ni Mr. Russell ang turong ito sa maling teaching ni Arius. Actually, walang prominent and respected church historian na mag-a-agree sa information ng mga Governing Body ng Mga Saksi ni Jehovah. In fact, baka nga maglabas pa sila ng magazine nila na ang title ay Should You Believe In the Trinity? na ang purpose ay tirahin ang Trinity doctrine. Pero asahan mo, itong magazine na ito ay punong-puno ng misquotations. How did I know about it? I personally checked it myself. ⁽³⁾ 

Second advice is to be prepared to show them the inconsistencies of their teachings. Alam mo, marami sa kanila ay hindi alam yung mga past teachings ng founder nila na si Mr. Russell at ng mga unang Governing Body nila. Of course they will not admit that Charles Taze Rusell was their founder, but will just say na he “took the lead in the Bible education work at that time.” ⁽⁴⁾ Pero kahit ano pang explanation ang gawin nila, kay Mr. Russell pa rin nagsimula ang teachings ng grupo nila. Although hindi na unique ang turo ni Mr. Russell tungkol kay Jesus kasi tinuro na ito ni Arius noong mga 4th century na according to him si Jesus daw ay mababang uri na Diyos kasi sabi ni Jesus, “The Father is greater than I.” Ang hindi nila naiintindihan ay noong sinabi ito ni Jesus ay nasa humanity’s form Siya kung kaya ito yung Kaniyang reference point noong binanggit Niya yung greater na ang Greek word ay meizon referring to His humanity’s position or role. Andiyan ang nagpredict sila ng maraming beses tungkol sa armageddon na nagsimula ito noong 1874 at magtatapos sa 1914 to completely overthrow the earth’s present rulership. ⁽⁵⁾ Nangyari ba? Hindi! Meron ding prediction si Judge Rutherford na sabi niya ay magre-resurrect daw sa taong 1925 ang mga patriarchs tulad nina Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, Samuel at iba pang nakasulat sa Hebrews 11. Kaya nagpagawa siya ng napakagandang residence sa San Diego, California para lang may tirhan ang mga prominent persons na ito sa Old Testament after they resurrect. Obviously, hindi natupad ang prophecy niya kaya siya na lang ang tumira dito hanggang sa araw ng kaniyang kamatayan noong 1942. ⁽⁶⁾ Marami pa silang mga predictions na ginawa na hindi nagkatotoo. But this will be enough to prove our point.

You can also ask them to open their own version of the Bible which is yung New World Translation. Usually, may dala kasi silang dalawang version ng Bible, this is the King James Version and the New World Translation or NWT for short. ⁽⁷⁾ Ask them first kung pareho ba ang Bible nation sa kanila. And they will be quick to say, “Yes!” para ipakita na accurate din ang kanilang version. Pero siyempre, alam naman nating hindi talaga totoo ito. Now, let them use the King James Version first then tell them to read John 1:1. Now, pagkabasa ng King James Version ay tell them to go to their NWT at basahin din nila ang sarili nilang version ng John 1:1. May mapapansin ka diyan na ganito:

John 1:1, King James Version

1st Clause: In the beginning was the Word, 

2nd Clause: and the Word was with God, 

3rd Cluase: and the Word was God. 

John 1:1, New World Translation

1st Clause: In the beginning was the Word, 

2nd Clause: and the Word was with God, 

3rd Clause: and the Word was a god. 

Now, nakita niyo ba yung difference na nasa third clause? Tanungin niyo sila kung sino yung ”God” sa second clause. Sigurado ang sagot nila ay si Jehovah the Father. Now, tanungin niyo uli kung ito bang “God” na ito na si Jehovah ay “true God or false God?” Ang sagot nila siyempre ay “true God” si Jehovah the Father. Mag-follow-up question ka ng ganito, “Naniniwala ba kayong iisa lang ang true God?” Ang sagot nila ay mabilis, “Yes, iisa lang ang tunay na Diyos.” Ngayong nakalatag na ang gusto mong ipalaiwanag sa kanila about the “true God” ay tanungin mo uli sila ng ganito, “Eh, itong nasa third clause na ‘a god?’ Ito ba ay ‘true god’ o ‘false god?’” Mabilis din nilang sasagutin ito na “Siya ay Mighty God.” Pero huwag kang magpapatinag dito. Sagutin mo Siya ng very gentle na, “Pero hindi naman Yan ang tanong ko. Ang tanong ko ay ‘true god’ ba iyang ‘a god’ na Iyan or ‘false god?” Ang totoo, hindi niya kayang sagutin ng diretso ang tanong mo kasi magbabanggaan ang belief niya. They believe there is only one true God who is Jehovah the Father Pero naniniwala din sila na si Jesus ay “a god” na Mighty God Pero hindi Almighty God. So ang tanong, ilan ang Diyos ng Mga Saksi ni Jehovah? Well, pabayaan mo na silang mag-isip at huwag mo nang i-insist ang na sagutin nila ang tanong mo kasi kahit na sila ay gulong-gulo na rin sa kanilang belief. You just let the Holy Spirit talk to them hoping that they will be unshackled from the bondage of darkness.

My third advise is for you to remind that Jehovah’s Witness to not be afraid in reading and interpreting the Scripture. Nanggaling na tayo sa isang religion na ang allowed lang mag-interpret ay ang pope so gusto pa rin ba nating maging ignorant tungkol sa sa sinasabi ng Bible? Hindi ka ba maniniwala na ang Holy Spirit ay may kakayahan na turuan ka at gabayan ka papunta sa truth? HIndi ba ini-encourage ni Paul si Timothy at ang church niya na mag-aral ng Scripture? Ang sulat nga ni Paul sa batang Timoteo ay ganito,

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. – 2 Timothy 2:15, KJV

At ang mga taga-Berea na mga Jews ay kinomend ni Paul na mas noble pa Kesa sa mga taga-Thessalonian kasi talagang nagsasaliksik ng Salita ng Diyos at hindi basta-basta naniniwala sa mga turo ni Paul. Ito ang sabi sa account ni Luke,

These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. – Acts 17:11, KJV   

Ang salitang “searched” diyan ay nanggaling sa Griyegong salita na “anakrino” na ang ibig ding sabihin ay to investigate, to scrutinize, to examine, to question, to inquire, and to sift.  Sana ay ganiyan din ang lahat ng Mga Saksi ni Jehovah na hindi lamang tanggap ng tanggap ng mga turo ng kanilang Governing Body. Meron nga akong alam na mag-asawang Mga Saksi ni Jehovah na sina David and Penni Reed that after nilang isantabi muna ang lahat ng Watchtower materials ay binasa nila ang Bible alone at nasumpungan nila ang totoong liwanag kay Kristo. Na-born again sila noong time na iyon at ngayon ay ginagamit sila ni Lord para mag-reachout ng mga dati nilang kapamilya at mga kaibigang Mga Saksi ni Jehovah. Ang ministry nila ay tinawag nilang Comments friom the Friends. According dito sa interview nilang mag-asawa,

Interviewer: What broke the spell and enabled you to leave the [Watchtower] organization?

David: “Bible reading! The Scripture is true that says, ‘the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword’.” (Hebrews 4:12 New King James)

Penni: “We were at a Witness convention, and. a handful of opposers were picketing outside. One of them carried a sign that said, ‘READ THE BIBLE, NOT THE WATCHTOWER’. We had no sympathy for the picketers, but we did feel convicted by this sign, because we knew that we had been reading the Watchtower to the exclusion of reading the Bible.”

David: “Later on, we actually counted up all of the material that the organization expected Witnesses to read. The books, magazines, lessons, etc. added up to over three thousand pages each year, compared with less than two hundred pages of Bible reading assigned – and most of that was in the Old Testament. The majority of Witnesses were so bogged down by the three thousand pages of the Society’s literature that they never got around to doing the Bible reading.” ⁽⁸⁾

So nakita niyo ang power ng Bible reading? I hope you will encourage them to read the Bible alone. 

My fourth and final advice is continue to be friendly kahit na alam mong antagonistic siya sa faith mo. May kasabihan nga na you may win the argument but lose the relationship. Our goal is to show the love of Jesus to that person. May he be encouraged to receive Jesus Christ into his life not only because he was convince by the truth of the Scripture but he also saw the fruit of the Holy Spirit in your life. And if you can pray for them before they leave much better. Kapag nagpa-pray sila ay gamitin niyo na lang ang pangalan ni Jehovah sa prayer ninyo at mag-preach na rin kayo ng gospel sa prayer ninyo.  

Let us continue share the gospel sa mga Jehovah’s Witness na nagbabahay-bahay, lalo na kung pumunta ito sa inyong bahay. Kasi the more that you shun them and drive them away, the more that they will feel that they are being persecuted to the point of saying that they are in the true faith. Sabi nga ni Wilbur Lingle, who’s ministry aside from church planting is also in reaching the Jehovah’s Witness for the Lord. 

“It is wonderful when you are able to get a Jehovah’s Witness to realize that the Watchtower Society is not God’s channel of communication to this earth. This often opens the door to explain the true way of salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ.” ⁽⁹⁾

There was a time that I asked one Jehovah’s Witness in Makati before to check the photocopied articles that I have if the Governing Body trully represented  the researchers at hindi nila minis-quote itong mga ito sa magasin nilang Should You Believe In the Trinity. Ang naging sagot niya ay nakakalungkot dahil ang sabi niya ay, “Ayokong basahin iyan kasi convince na ako dito sa belief ko.” Unfortunately, mas gugustuhin pa niyang makulong sa kadiliman kesa malaman niya ang truth kung papaanong tini-twist ng Governing Body ang truth sa mga information na kinuha nila sa mga different references na ginamit nila.
